I would like to announce the audition dates and other important information for the Mighty Lion Band for Fall 2015.

 

1. There are (2) TWO audition dates.

   1. Saturday, March 21, 2015 - East Mississippi Community College Scooba Campus -  “MIGHTY LION BAND” HALL

   2. Saturday, March 28, 2015 - East Mississippi Community College Golden Triangle Campus - Lyceum

2. Audition requirements for all aspects of the Mighty Lion Band are as follows:

   1. Woodwinds / Brass / Mallet Players: 

      1. PREPARED PIECE.  Download the Prepared Piece here.  

      2. SCALES.  Student will choose (2) TWO from the following:  Concert Bb, Eb,Ab, Db, G, C, F (Student should show extended range). Download Scale Sheet here.

      3. CHROMATIC SCALE. Full range of Instrument.

      4. SIGHT READING.

      5. INTERVIEW.

   2. Guard and Dance:

      1. Registration for the day clinic will begin at 8:30 am (BE ON TIME OR EARLY TO REGISTER)

      2. Fundamental and routine clinic begins promptly at 9:00 am (SHARP—TARDINESS IS NOT ACCEPTED)

      3. Lunch is scheduled form 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm.  STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR LUNCH.

      4. Neat and appropriate dance attire is REQUIRED. Tennis shoes are allowed for those auditioning for color guard. Those auditioning for dance are REQUIRED to wear dance-style shoes.

   3. Percussion:

      1. PREPARED PIECE. Download the Prepared Piece here.

      2. Rudiments will be selected by instructor.

      3. SIGHT READING. *Technique will be observed and scored by instructors during prepared piece, rudiment, and sight-reading performances.

      4. INTERVIEW.

3. There is no fee to audition; however, every student MUST register and confirm with Mr. Stringer BEFORE audition.  

4. Tips for Audition:

   1. ARRIVE EARLY. Arrive early to receive any special instructions and warm up/prepare for audition.

   2. DRESS APPROPRIATELY. Students should "dress to impress." Students should show respect for the audition process.

   3. SPEAK CLEARLY, CONFIDENTLY AND RESPECTFULLY. Do not be afraid to ask questions. This is a time that will make an impression on the instructors. It is the student's choice if the impression is a good one or a band one.

   4. BE PREPARED FOR THE AUDITION.  Do not come and sight-read materials that should be prepared. 

   5. MAKE SURE TO REGISTER FOR A TIME WITH MR. STRINGER FOR THE AUDITION.  Register by sending us an email to SSTRINGER@EASTMS.EDU or using the the sign-up form here.

5. EMCC Band has a 3-tier scholarship system.

   1. PRIMARY:  Full tuition and some fees.

   2. ADVANCED:  Full tuition, fees, and ½ cost of room and board (Scooba Campus) OR $500 towards books at the Golden Triangle Campus.  (THERE IS A LIMITED NUMBER OF THESE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE.  In order to receive this lever scholarship, students must perform with a high lever of mastery for audition.)

   3. BAND HONORS:  Full tuition, fees, and $100 cost of room and board (Scooba Campus) OR $1,000 towards books at the Golden Triangle Campus.  (THERE IS A LIMITED NUMBER OF THESE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE.  In order to receive this level scholarship, students must perform with a high level of mastery for audition.)

6. EMCC Band continues to offer transportation for students studying at our G.T. Campus the opportunity to participate in the Mighty Lion Band.

   1. Students studying at the Golden Triangle Campus CAN be a part of the Mighty Lion Band.

   2. An EMCC van transports students from the G.T. Campus to the Scooba Campus to band rehearsals and events and returns them home after the rehearsal or event has concluded.

   3. This is an excellent opportunity for students to still stay at home and be a part of a college band.

7. The EMCC Mighty Lion Band is slated to travel in the Fall of 2015.

   1. As a follow-up to the 2013 trip to Philadelphia, PA during Thanksgiving to perform in the Dunkin Donuts Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Mighty Lion Band will be traveling again during Thanksgiving 2015!

   2. Currently, plans are being made for travel and once they are finalized, the announcement will be made. It is definately an exciting opportunity!
